PhD Researcher in Electrochemistry for Fuel Cells - HR Department, Tyndall National Institute, Ireland

(Ref No. LN - 02) PhD Researcher Electrochemistry for fuel cells
This position is funded by Enterprise Ireland)

Applications are invited for a Ph.D position in the Electrochemical Deposition and Micropower Group in the Microsystems Research Centre to fabricate a micro direct methanol fuel cell (micro DMFC).

The project targets the development of a silicon-integrated micro DMFC as a portable low power source. The capability recently established in this group to develop composite catalysts which exhibit superior activity for methanol oxidation will be exploited in designing the anode catalyst. A cathode catalyst based on a Pt/C combination tailored specifically for oxygen reduction will be developed and integrated in the cathode compartment. In striving to deliver a simple and low cost design, a passive (pump-free) micro DMFC is envisaged where reactants will be passively fed into micro-channel patterns of the electrodes.

The successful candidate for this position will have a good undergraduate degree in chemistry or materials science (2.1 or higher).

Please forward a detailed CV together with references and grades to careers@tyndall.iequoting reference no. LN - 02.
