Sustainable Development of Agricultural and Rural Areas of the Adriatic-Ionian Basin - MISS

January-November 2009, Faculty of Agriculture - University of Bologna

The Second Lever University Master's Degree MISS foresees the analyses and the discussion of the main topics related to sustainable development, with particular current reference to the countries of the Adriatic-Ionian Basin. Special attention will be given to specific elements of the agro-food system and to its implications for the European Integration Process, for local, social and economic development, and for environmental and energetic issues.

The programme of the Master is articulated in three interdisciplinary areas, related to international cooperation and internationalisatio n with particular reference to the agricultural and rural development, valorisation of typical agro-food products, sustainable development in its diverse aspects, such as organic farming and bioenergy issues.
The three main areas are the following:
- International Cooperation
- Sustainable Agricultural Development Policies
- Sustainable Rural Development

The Didactic Plan foresees different intervention methods, which in their
whole constitute an interdisciplinary didactic offer as complete as possible:
- an on-line module composed of several courses;
- a face-to-face module, which includes classes, workshops, round tables, field visits;
- seminars and conferences;
- an internship;
- a Master thesis.
The Master Programme is open to graduated candidates (4/5 year’s degree) coming mostly from one of the following scientific areas:
- Agricultural Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Forestry Sciences, Economics, or related Sciences.
Among the requisites for the participation at the Master Programme are foreseen both, the knowledge of the English language which will be the working language of the course and a basic knowledge of informatics, necessary for the participation to the distance activities.

A limited number of scholarships will be offered to students from Albania, Bosnia Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) and Serbia.
