PhD Position Dresden Stem cells
Description : 1 PhD position on the Influence of Tissue Organization on the Function of Stem Cell Niches in the Drosophila Germline Stem cell niches are specific signalling microenvironments within a tissue that allow stem cells to acquire and maintain their properties, in particular their ability to self replicate. We are interested in how tissue organization, especially intercellular junctions, extracellular matrices, and polarized intracellular transport processes shape these growth factor signals.
For this, we will in comparative approach study the stem cell niches in the Drosophila testis and ovary, where the same growth factor signals operate in strikingly different ways. We will use advanced microscopic and biophysical approaches, including fluorescence based live reporters for receptor activation, to adress how the niche signals in the germline evolve dynamically over time and space, as well as genetic methods to disrupt the tissue organization
of the niches. Successful applicants should hold a diploma or masters degree in biology, biochemistry, or related subjects. A background in developmental biology or in vivo imaging, as well as a keen interest in genetic approaches would be ideal. Applications including a detailed CV and contact details for two referees should be sent, preferentially by email, to: Dr. Christian Bo?kel, Center for Regenerative Therapies Dresden, TU Dresden, Tatzberg 4749, 01307 Dresden, christian.boekel@ crtdresden. de . For details call (+49)(0)35146340032 or contact C.B. by email. The CRTD supports women in science and especially encourages them to apply. Handicapped applicants with equal qualifications will be preferred.
