with the support of the Ministry of Culture, Institute for Protection of Cultural Heritage and Ministry of Education

IN THE GLORY OF SAINT CLEMENT'S UNIVERSITY

August 16 - 29, 2010 in Ohrid, Republic of Macedonia

In the framework of the efforts for renovation of the Ancient Saint Clement's University founded in Ohrid at the end of the 9th century by the favorite disciple of Sts. Cyril and Methodius, we are announcing the Summer School Programme to be held in the period August 16-29, 2010 in Ohrid, thus reconstructing the colossal educational and spiritual role of the first European Medieval University. Becoming the cradle of
literacy and creative expression of the entire Balkans' territory, the ancient city of Ohrid grew into a center of the Slavonic culture, while Saint Clement was entitled as patron of the educational skills and training opportunities for the Slavs, transforming the newly settled tribes into highly dedicated followers of the Byzantine civilization.

In that regard, Euro-Balkan Institute with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Institute for Protection of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Education, will give its contribution to the preparation phase of the renovation of Saint Clement's University in Ohrid by organizing three Summer Schools, appropriate to the authentic
"curriculum" and educational significance of Saint Clement's original academic center:

* Reconstructing Imaginary and Real Byzantium : Historical and Cultural Legacy that Divide and Integrate Europe
* The Bogomils: Dissident Bridge of European Cultural Continuity
* The Universal Character of Saint Clement's Enlightenment and of Medieval Literature and Art in Macedonia

The Summer Schools will offer master classes held by the most prominent scholars from the field of Byzantine Studies from the Universities in Glasgow, Cambridge, Venice, Birmingham, Vienna and Nitra, as well as by the leading Byzantine experts from the Republic of Macedonia. In regard to the high standards established by the Euro-Balkan Institute in organization of Summer School Programs and due to its membership in the
Erasmus Charter, each Summer School will grant the participants appropriate certificate with 10 credits (ECTS), applicable in the master studies of participant's home universities.

The academic programme of Ohrid Summer University 2010, which encompasses the courses of the Summer School Projects, will be supplemented by other educational activities, such are the intensive course in Old Slavonic language and the workshop in paper production, offered for all the participants of Ohrid Summer University.

In addition, the diverse social and cultural events, which will include: excursions and sightseeing trips in Ohrid and its vicinity, should contribute to the didactical and entertaining dimensions of the extracurricular activities. The beach parties, the beach bar and the concerts of Ohrid Summer Musical Programme should also contribute to the pleasant stay in the campus situated in the close vicinity of the UNESCO
protected city of Ohrid, located at the shore of the unforgettably beautiful Ohrid Lake.

The dead line for application is May 1st, 2010 .

The full tuition, the accommodation, the food and the excursions will be covered by the organizers. The total fee for the participants is 100 Euros.
