With its traditional name Dersim or Tunceli, has always taken a prominent place in national agenda with its distinctive geography, belief, language and culture shaped by its political identity; and has become both the subject and the object of social and political acts. As a consequence, Tunceli (Dersim) has been approached a lot in political texts and become the matter of discussion frequently not only in official texts but also in critical texts.
As it has been mainly handled in the context of politics across Turkey, Tunceli (Dersim) has not been or has not been allowed to be discussed scientifically in academic texts. However, Tunceli (Dersim) stands out as a remarkable field of search not only for its natural beauties, but for also its society and culture for all sciences especially for social sciences.
Recently, mostly due to the impacts of globalization, ways of multiple thinking has developed in Turkey and in the world and new ways of taking modern taboos as subjects to academy have been found. Thus, master and PhD thesis has started to be written on Tunceli (Dersim) as in Eropean Universities. Moreover, assertions have been presented in national and international conferences and some articles have been published about
Tunceli (Dersim). The increase in such kind of studies has lead to the need of a more inclusive kind of activity that enables academic and scientific relation. To meet this need, Tunceli University has now decided to organize a symposium where the economic, historic and social dimensions of Tunceli (Dersim) from past to present will be discussed in historical perspective.
In this context, in the interdisciplinary symposium we are going to hold between 4 and 6 October 2010 in Tunceli, the history, economy, social and political structure, culture and daily life of Tunceli (Dersim) will be discussed by experts and academicians in the related fields. It is aimed to publish a well-organized source including the full texts of presentations on Tunceli (Dersim) in the following two months after the symposium.
Hereby, the city will be hosting a scientific activity where the city will have the opportunity to express itself, and hear different approaches produced outside the city, and diversities come into contact with one another for the first time in its history.
We invite experts and academicians making searches in various related disciplines about Tunceli (Dersim) to send abstracts to the symposium and support us with their valuable opinions, thoughts and suggestions.
