Young Scientists Summer Program Application

IIASA's annual Young Scientists Summer Program (YSSP) is a three-month (June–August) research program for around fifty advanced students whose interests correspond with IIASA's ongoing research.

The 2007 program starts on June 4, 2007 and ends on August 31, 2007 ; commitment to stay over the whole period is a prerequisite for acceptance of the application. Participants are expected to arrive in Austria one or two days prior to the official opening of the program.

An essential part of the application is a research plan which should be (i) relevant to the research agenda of the program selected by the applicant (ii) the research objectives of the candidate and (iii) the corresponding background and skills of the applicant. For scientific questions pertaining to the program of your particular interest, please contact the relevant program representative.

Many of IIASA's National Member Organizations (NMO) provide special grants to enable young scientists (either their own nationals or foreign students studying in their country) to participate. Inquiries concerning financial aid should be directed to the appropriate NMO Secretary.

Applicants not eligible for a NMO scholarship will have to find alternative funds to finance their participation. IIASA has, however, limited funds for exceptional applicants from non NMO countries.

The application period for the 2007 YSSP starts on October 1, 2006 and lasts until January 15, 2007 . During this time you can create new applications, edit existing applications, and register completed applications for the YSSP program. Applications submitted after this date will not be accepted.

How can I submit my application?

The whole process is very simple. You will be guided throughout the application completion procedure. The menu on the left side will allow you to jump between different pages and change information you already entered. It is not necessary to complete the whole application at one time; you can simply record changes you made, leave this site and come back later. Once the application form is completed you must then submit it in order to apply for this year's program.

You will only be considered as an applicant to the YSSP summer program if you have successfully submitted your application form - (see Step 3).

N.B. you will not be able to modify your application information after completing submission.

Application to the YSSP program.

Step 1: Create new application, receive your application ID number.

This option allows you to start a new application, and it requires only your name and email address. Your email, along with the ID that will be given to you allows you to prepare and edit your application.

Step 2: Preparing your application

The preparation of the application requires filling in a number of forms where you will be asked to provide data about your studies, thesis, interests, motivation for applying to the program, and names of two references.

Since preparing this application might take a while, you have the possibility to store the content at any time, exit and then come back, i.e., logon to the YSSP registration application from the web using your email and ID, in order to complete it. Once a particular page of the form is completed, do not forget to click "Update Application Form" before proceeding to the next page of the form.

You will only be able to proceed to Step 3 after all the required information is completed.

All fields marked with an "*" must be completed for a successful submission of your application.

Step 3: Submit your YSSP application – requires a complete application.

Once you have fully completed an application form, it must be submitted. During the submission process the completeness of the application will be verified and in case some important information is missing you will be asked to supply this before the submission can be finalized. Upon successful submission you will receive a confirmation and further instructions.
