ESRC 1+3 Studentships
&
Departmental and University Scholarships
Applications are invited for three quota ESRC '1+3' studentships in sociology and social policy to start in September 2007. These awards cover the costs of UK students undertaking the MA in Methods of Social Research followed by a three-year PhD. The awards cover tuition fees, maintenance (?12,300 a year) and a training support grant. EU students who have been resident in the UK for three years prior to starting are also eligible. The School is one of the leading research centres in social policy and sociology in Britain, and is one of the two departments in the UK to have a 6* in social policy. The School has 50 lecturing staff and over 30 research staff and offers supervision capacity in a very wide range of fields. PhD programmes are available in Sociology, Criminology, Environmental Social Science, Social Policy, Social Work, and Urban Studies.
Applicants should normally have (or be expecting) a Class I or good Class II(i) honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline.

To be considered for an ESRC studentship, please:
1.. Apply to the University for a place in the School. This can be done via an on-line application form which can be found at http://www.kent. ac.uk/studying/ postgrad/ apply/
2.. Write to the School applying for a ESRC studentship, and enclosing a 2 page proposal. It is advisable to make prior contact with a potential supervisor before applying. Please contact: socio-office@ kent.ac.uk The deadline for applications for ESRC studentships is Friday 6 April 2007
In addition there will be up to 6 Departmental and University scholarships. The deadline for application is Tuesday 15 May 2007.
