A graduate is sought to work on an e-business application development research project. The project aims to study and analyse the state-of-the- art in open source technologies to develop/enhance the e-business functionalities and internal knowledge management at HYQUIP to improve its business performance.
The project is a collaborative research effort between the University of Bolton and Hyquip Limited. Hyquip is a leading provider of Components and Engineering Services for Production Automation, Work Holding and Industrial Solutions. It serves as a single reliable source for customers of fluid power requirements, standard parts and
machine accessories. Hyquip has been accredited with ISO 9001 and has established partnerships with many component manufacturers in the market including Carr Lane, Stark, Roemheld, Hilma and Rexroth Bosch. The company is committed to a high quality product and service provision for its customers and it has an established and formal
Quality Management System.
The project entails a 4 days-per-week work placement at Hyquip which involves analysing, developing and improving e-Business applications. The research student will also attend 1 day per week at the University for updating subject specific knowledge and research skills. The successful candidate will be expected to register and complete a PhD within the fixed term scholarship.
Job specifications: Qualifications and experience A minimum of one year web programming experience in Java, JSP/CGI and database development (My-SQL/ Oracle/ MS-SQL Server) is essential for this role. An understanding of JSF, XML, Web Services, SOAP and UML is desirable.
The applicant must hold a minimum 2:1 Bachelor's or Master's degree in project related subject areas such as Computing, Information Technology or e-Business.
The applicant must have sound communication skills and be able to interact effectively with various stakeholders in the project including the core personnel and other business partners of HYQUIP.
The applicant must be a self-motivated and task driven individual. These qualities are essential as the proposed project involves accomplishment of operational tasks at HYQUIP and PhD research activities.
Previous experience in developing e-business applications, intranet portals, logistics or distribution management systems using open source technologies is highly desirable.
