International Scientific Conference Ukraine - Romania - Moldova: Historical, Political and Cultural Relations in the Context of Modern European Processes (18 -19 September 2007, Chernivtsi, Ukraine)

Dear Colleagues!

Department of Political Science and Public Administration of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations of Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University and Bukovynian Center for Political Studies, in close cooperation with and financially supported by Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Ukraine and the Canadian
Institute for Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta, and with participation of Chernivtsi Regional State Administration, are pleased to announce the 3rd International Scientific Conference 'Ukraine - Romania - Moldova: Historical, Political and Cultural Relations in the Context of Contemporary European Processes', which will be held at Yuriy Fedkovych Chernivtsi National University on September 18-19, 2007, on the premises of the Faculty of History, Political Science and International Relations.

Primary objectives of the conference are:

Strengthening ties among the academia as regards topical problems of cooperation and present-day relations between Ukraine, Romania and Moldova.

Defining problem areas in relations between Ukraine, Romania and Moldova and elaborating up-to-date approaches for solving them on constructive and objective grounds.

Making proposals for follow-up scientific and practical events, drafting and implementing bilateral and trilateral models of interaction between historians, political scientists, cultural anthropologists and NGO activists of Ukraine, Romania and Moldova, drafting recommendations for central and regional authorities and
bodies of local self-government, aimed at streamlining bilateral and trilateral cooperation.

The conference will include the following main sections (panels):

Ukrainian-Romanian- Moldovan relations: lessons from the past.

Security dimension of trilateral relations: energy and military-political aspects.
Political, legal, socioeconomic and civil ties between Ukraine, Romania and Moldova. European integration as their inseparable component.

Developing joint approaches to studying and managing ethnonational processes in relations between Ukraine, Romania and Moldova.

Cultural, academic and educational dimensions of relations between Ukraine, Romania and Moldova.

Cutting-edge publications on the subject area will be presented during the conference.

Interested scholars are requested to send topic proposals for their reports and messages before August 28, 2007 to the address mentioned below.

Please send the abstract of your report or message (1 page) and, on a separate sheet, your CV with due contact addresses.

Applicants selected by the organizing committee for participation in the Conference will be provided with further instructions and information on accommodation in Chernivtsi by September 7-8, 2007.

Participants are provided with free meals and accommodation for the time of the conference. There is a limited number of stipends for round trip to Chernivtsi by train (coupe car) or by bus.
