PhD in Virtual Modelling - Technische Universiteit Eindhoven

PhD Visual Perception Computing and Interpretation using a Virtual Building Model
Technische Universiteit Eindhoven Department of Building and Architecture

Job description
New human behaviour centred simulation models are needed for more reliable prediction of building performances. Especially (semi) public buildings like hotels, stadiums, disco, airports, etc. are of major concern. The aim of the proposed project is to develop a dynamic model for the simulation of human vision and visual interpretation in buildings. In existing human behaviour simulation methods, human
visual perception and linking vision with action, is not included. Human vision is unlike computer scanning of a digital model. Human visual interpretation is unlike processing an image recognition algorithm. To contribute to human behaviour simulation research and provide a richer architecture, the proposed project aims creating the technology for visual perception computing and interpretation using a
virtual model. The key elements of the simulation model are spilt into three processes, namely (i) Object recognition, (ii) Scene interpretation and (iii) Reasoning. For each process new technologies will be developed an implemented in a larger agent-based framework. Finally the visual perception simulation is validated using real-life data.

Required education/skills: University Graduate
The candidate should have an MSc in Computing Science, Civil Engineering or Cognitive Science, with a sound knowledge on image recognition and Artificial Intelligence. Fluency in English and basic programming skills are requested.
