The Chair of Applied Mechanics at the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany, invites application for a research position working on the modeling and simulation of the electro/magneto-mechanical coupling effect in polymers. The position can be filled as PhD or Postdoc research. The successful applicant will be involved in characterizing the electro/magneto-mechanical properties and in developing numerical methods to simulate the deformation process of electro/magneto-active polymers under electric loading. Experience in experimental work, material modeling and numerical methods such as the finite element method is highly expected.

Qualification:

Candidates should have a university degree or PhD in physics, materials science, civil, mechanical or manufacturing engineering with the ability to work independently, to plan and to organize multi-disciplinary tasks, have good knowledge of basic materials science and engineering, especially solid mechanics, good communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Terms of employment:

The terms of employment will be in accordance with the general rules for scientific staff of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. The salary offered is according to German TVL E-13. The position is to be filled initially for a fixed period of up to 2 years with possible extension.
