PhD position: “Ultrafast Multidimensional IR Spectroscopy – Real Time Dynamics in Chemistry and Biophysics” - University of Frankfurt, Germany

A PhD Position is available immediately in the group of Jens Bredenbeck at the University of Frankfurt. Our group investigates molecular dynamics and interactions at the intersection of chemistry, physics and biology using cutting edge ultrafast nonlinear laser techniques, mainly multidimensional IR spectroscopy. This novel technique employs a sequence of femtosecond infrared laser pulses to obtain structure and dynamics information via the coupling between molecular vibrations.

Your work will include the application of ultrafast multidimensional IR spectroscopy to exciting problems in biomolecular and chemical dynamics as well as the development of novel spectroscopic techniques.

Qualifications: We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate with a very good degree in Chemistry, Physics or a related field and experience in some of the following: biophysics, physical chemistry, laser physics, nonlinear optics, vibrational spectroscopy, femtosecond spectroscopy.

Our group is part of an attractive interdisciplinary research environment and member of the Cluster of Excellence “Macromolecular Complexes” and the Sonderforschungsbereich “Molecular Bioenergetics”. The position is funded by the Sofja Kovalevskaja Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Please send your application to Dr. Jens Bredenbeck (bredenbeck@biophysik.uni-frankfurt.de), including an application letter, a CV, a statement of qualifications important for the position, as well as addresses of two referees who would write a recommendation letter on your behalf.
