UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO seeks applications for a new Director of Religious Studies, to be hired at the rank of Full Professor or Associate Professor. Appointment will be made with tenure in an appropriate disciplinary department in the College of Arts and Sciences. The University of New Mexico is a major public research university with a highly diverse student body. The Religious Studies Program is a large interdisciplinary program within the College of Arts & Sciences, with participation of faculty and students from across the entire university.

Minimum qualifications: A) an earned PhD degree in an appropriate field; B) A record of scholarship, teaching, and service that will qualify the applicant for tenure in one of the following Arts and Sciences departments: English, Sociology, Anthropology, History, American Studies, or Philosophy; C) a record of scholarly excellence with a significant focus on religion and/or cultural dynamics of society closely linked to religion; D) a demonstrated commitment to the values of a public university; E) and, past teaching experience in areas relevant to religion, with evidence of excellence.

Preferred qualifications: 1) Outstanding leadership in administration and institution-building within an academic setting; 2) Demonstrated interest in supporting scholarly work on religion; 3) Knowledge and skills to continue building the program; 4) and Demonstrated capacity to work cooperatively with faculty and administrative colleagues.
