Phd position: The Geography of Health and Community Well-being, University of Portsmouth

The Department of Geography, University of Portsmouth have two competitive fees-only doctoral studentships available for three years (full-time) for suitably qualified students to start in September 2010 (UK or EU students only). Applicants are invited to submit a research proposal that aligns with the following (one of four available) research cluster within the Department.

The Geography of Health and Community Well-being.
Applied and exploratory research activities span a range of health and community agendas but the distinctive focus is positioned on the difference that place and geography make to health outcomes and behaviour, health care, health policy and community well-being.

Please see (www.port.ac.uk/departments/academic/geography/research) and the specific projects that staff have recently undertaken. Applicants wishing to undertake a programme of research that cuts across two or more of these themes are also encouraged to apply.

Applicants are expected to have a good first degree (minimum upper second class Honours degree or equivalent) and ideally a Masters (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area. For non-Masters students, a programme of accredited research training is compulsory during the first year of study.

Funding Notes
Tuition fees will be available for three years, full-time study (approximately £3,440 per year). Students will have to fund their own maintenance during this period of study.
