The International Institute and the Division of Social Sciences at UCLA invite applications for a joint, tenure-track assistant professor position. Applicants for the position must have research and teaching interests that offer a social science perspective on Turkey or the western Balkans in the 20th century.
The ideal candidate would situate his or her regional interests in the context of cross-regional processes (e.g. EU expansion, democratization, politicization of religion, cross-border ethno-national conflict, or relationships with the EU or countries of the former Soviet Union) drawing on the theories and methodologies of one or more social science disciplines. Applicants from the disciplines of political science, sociology and geography are especially encouraged to apply.
We seek a scholar with a strong potential in research and a commitment to graduate and undergraduate education. The preferred candidate will be a dynamic program builder, who will help coordinate UCLA's initiatives in this region and contribute to interdisciplinary dialogue with colleagues throughout the University.
The successful candidate must be able to teach core courses in his/her discipline as well as area-focused courses. PhD or ABD near completion by June 30, 2011 is required.
