PhD position: Factors controlling gas dispersion in natural and man-made systems, Aalborg University, Denmark

Position No.
18-10075

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering a PhD stipend is available within the general study programme “Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering”. The stipend is open for appointment from November 1, 2010 or as soon as possible hereafter.

Job description

The research will focus on gas dispersion and advection in porous materials as induced by external pressure fluctuations biofilters such as wind turbulence or passage of weather systems. Main tasks will include: (1) Identifying relationships between gas dispersion coefficient and media grain and pore size. (2) Assessment of the relationships between gas dispersion coefficient and pressure fluctuation characteristics. (3) Development and testing of dispersion measurement methods for use both in the laboratory and in the field.

Requirements
Applicants should hold a Master degree or equivalent at the time of appointment and should have extensive knowledge of gas and water transport in porous media. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with measurement of gas and liquid dispersion in porous media. The candidate should be fluent in English both written and oral.

You may obtain further information from Associate Professor Tjalfe G. Poulsen, Department of Biotechnology, Chemistry and Environmental Engineering , phone: +45 9940 9938 , email: tgp@bio.aau.dk concerning the technical aspects of the stipend.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 18 of January 14, 2008 on the PhD Programme at the Universities. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

For further information about stipends and salary contact Ms. Maj-Britt Trolle Ståhl, The Faculty of Engineering and Science, email: mts@adm.aau.dk, phone: +45 9940 7582.
