Miami University is a state-assisted institution chartered in 1809, making it one of the oldest universities in the United States. Miami University has an enrollment of 16,900 students (of whom approximately 1,700 are graduate students) and is located in the wooded, rolling countryside of southwestern Ohio in the city of Oxford which is a pleasant residential community of 8,500 full-time residents. Oxford is a distance of about 58 kilometers northwest of Cincinnati, Ohio and about 76 kilometers southwest of Dayton, Ohio. The Miami campus is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful university campuses in the United States. For a virtual tour of our campus, I encourage you to visit http://www.muohio.edu/etour.
Miami University has a national reputation as a premier public university--a "public ivy." Students receive the benefits of a major public university: over 100 fields of study, opportunities for scholarships and lots of student activities along with the personal attention and academic reputation typically found only at private schools.
Miami is committed to serving a diverse student body and recognizes that an important component of a diverse campus is a vibrant international student population. International students not only can benefit from Miami and all that it has to offer but also are essential in bringing different perspectives and world views to the university community. As part of this commitment, Miami University offers scholarships specifically for international undergraduate students. These renewable merit-based scholarships, called International Education Scholarships, range in values of up to $10,000 per year. Although financial need is not necessarily
considered for these merit-based awards, the International Education Scholarships do enable many international students with modest financial need to attend and graduate from Miami University.
While the International Education Scholarships are available for undergraduate students, graduate applicants to Miami may apply for graduate assistantships, which cover the costs of tuition and fees in addition to providing a salary or stipend to pay for living expenses in exchange for employment in a university department. International graduate students may also be considered for the graduate International Grant-in-Aid which pays the costs of tuition and fees but does not provide a salary or monetary stipend.
