The Centre is a Centre of Excellence (CoE) under the scheme initiated by the Research Council of Norway to enable Norwegian research groups to carry on long-term, basic research at a high international standard. The Centre has around 35 scientists including professors, postdocs, PhD candidates and visiting professors/scholars .
The Centre deals with Quality of Service (QoS) issues in heterogeneous, multilayered networks where packet switching technology is employed. The Centre works within the following areas: new network structures, wireless networks included, multimedia signal processing, dependability, traffic and security as applied to multiparty communication between stationary and mobile users.

Wages are negotiated individually. Postdoc positions are placed in salary code 1352, entry salary level 54 - 77 on the Norwegian State Salary Scale. This amounts to an annual gross salary of NOK 389 400 – 604 900. A postdoc will generally be liable to pay personal income tax in Norway. There is also a compulsory 2 % deduction for the State Pension Fund.
Compensation for visiting professors/scholars is negotiated individually and may include monthly support to cover the additional living expenses, as well as travel expenses to and from Norway, as appropriate.
