PhD. Student Position in Miniature Mobile Robot Design

Two funded PhD student positions are available at the Laboratory of Robotics Systems (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) in the group of Dr. Francesco Mondada to work on the design of miniature mobile robots for inspection purposes.

The candidate is expected to develop innovative miniature mechatronic solutions for the inspection of complex installations such as gas turbines, generators or other power plants infrastructures. The focus of this work will be on miniaturization, design of mobility structures, system design and semi-autonomous control.

Applicants should preferably have an MSc in one of the following disciplines :
· Micro-engineering
· Robotics
· Mechatronics

Candidates from other disciplines are also welcome if they demonstrate skills in the above-mentioned areas. Proficiency in writing/spoken English is mandatory. PhD student candidate will be requested to do some class assistance and supervise undergraduate and master projects.
