PhD Research Opportunities, Learning Sciences Research Institute

The Learning Sciences Research Institute (LSRI) is a centre of excellence for research in the learning sciences and technological innovation. Research at the Institute explores the fundamental processes and practices of learning, and how to design new technologies to enhance human learning and interaction. The LSRI brings together staff from the Schools of Computer Science and IT, Education and Psychology, as well as expertise from other disciplines.

Applications are welcome in any area of the learning sciences and students will be jointly supervised by staff between two of the three Schools making up the Institute.

Potential PhD topics include, but are not limited to:

- Learning cultures and contexts.
- Global and distance learning.
- Mixed-reality learning technology.
- Playful and game-based learning.
- Visual thinking and learning.
- Collaborative learning.
- Designs for mobile and informal learning.
- Analysis of classroom interaction.
- Fundamental learning processes.

Students should have, or expect to obtain, at least a 2.1 undergraduate degree or Masters degree in psychology, computer science, education or an appropriate discipline.

The successful students will be registered in one of the three lead Schools. However, all application forms should be submitted via the LSRI for the purposes of administrative processing.
