PhD-Student : Structural characterization of microporous media

Job description: Imaging radiographic and computer-tomographi c X-ray methods based on synchrotron radiation allow for the imaging of the internal microstructure of materials, biological tissues, and components.

Modern synchrotron sources are characterized by a high degree of spatial coherence of their X-radiation.

Work is aimed at specifically using these coherence properties for the development of new imaging mechanisms of high spatial resolution and high contrast. These mechanisms are applied in real-time radiography and holographic computer tomography to determine statistic properties of microporous materials and their temporal development. Your tasks will include:
• The development of new imaging techniques using the partial coherence of X-radiation
• The setup and execution of experiments at ANKA and the ESRF
• The implementation / development of reconstruction algorithms and adequate image evaluation methods
• Their application for studying microporous media

Cooperation:

Universität Karlsruhe (TH); ESRF Grenoble; INSA Lyon; Fraunhofer ITWM Kaiserslautern.

In line with the university’s policy of equal opportunities, applications from qualified women are particularly encouraged. Handicapped applicants will be preferred in case of the same qualification.

Qualification:
• University studies of electrical engineering, physics, or information science with an excellent result;
• Excellent knowledge of mathematics and numerical methods;
• Good knowledge of the English language.
Salary: The salary will be based on TVöD (according to the applicant’s profile).
