PhD Studentship, School of Veterinary Medicine & Science & School of Biosciences

Molecular mechanisms of canine mitral valve disease

Project Supervisors: Dr I M Bowen and Professor M A Cobb (School of Veterinary Medicine & Science) and Dr T Parr (School of Biosciences)

A postgraduate student is required with interests in cardiovascular and/or cell signalling research to begin a three year research project leading to a PhD degree. The objectives of the programme are to characterise cellular characteristics and mechanisms of fibrosis of the canine mitral valve, to investigate the phenotypic response of the canine valvular cells to strain and document the signalling pathways responsible for these changes using techniques already established in this group.

Students should have a 1st or 2i honours degree in a biological/biomedical/veterinary sciences subject. Those with a 2.2, but with a relevant MSc or MPhil, will also be considered.

Due to funding restrictions, this studentship, which is available immediately, only provides funding for students from the UK/EU.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Dr Bowen, Email: Mark.Bowen@Nottingham.ac.uk.

Applications, together with a detailed CV and the names and addresses of two referees, should be sent to Deborah Coutts, School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, The University of Nottingham, Sutton Bonington Campus, Loughborough, Leicestershire, LE12 5RD. Email: postgrad-vet@Nottingham.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can also apply on-line at: https://pgapps.nottingham.ac.uk/.
