Conference: Pre-Ottoman and Ottoman Studies, Zagreb, 25-30.8.2008

CIEPO-18 INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF PRE-OTTOMAN AND OTTOMAN STUDIES. 15TH SYMPOSIUM Zagreb, August 25th-30th, 2008

We are pleased to announce that the 18th symposium of the CIEPO will take place at the Zagreb University, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences from the 25th to the 30th of August 2008. The organizing committee calls for your presentation of current research in disciplines of pre-Ottoman and Ottoman studies, either in English or in Turkish. French and German are also accepted. Those interested in pre-organized panels and thematic workshops are kindly requested to send their proposals until the 15th of January. Pre-organized panels should consist of two to three papers, plus an analysis of them by a moderator of ten minutes maximum length. The
papers should center on a single theme or question, and the panel proposal should include an abstract (500 words maximum) for the entire panel explaining its theme and rationale and how the individual papers contribute to that theme, in addition to an individual abstract (300 words maximum) for each paper. Abstract, should be scholarly, with a strong, focused statement of thesis with well-organized research data, and coherent conclusions.

Workshops should consist of short (10-minute) presentations by the panelists, leaving a longer time for discussion of the problem or question. The abstract for a workshop should specify the problem or debate and its significance, as well as a summary of each panelist's contribution to the discussion. Every effort will be made to include all who wish to make a presentation, but in case it becomes necessary to limit the number of papers, the selection will be made by members of the Organizing Committee.

Individual papers will be organized into sections by the Organizing Committee. The desirable duration of a paper presentation is 15 minutes; it should not exceed 20 minutes. Again, in case it becomes necessary to limit the number of papers, the selection will be made by members of the Organizing Committee. Participants are requested to finance their own travel expenses and accommodation. The registration fee for the congress is 100 € (Euro) or its equivalent in Kunas (Kn) which should be paid to the accounts opened on behalf of the CIEPO. The CIEPO membership of U.S. $ 10 or 55 Kunas should be paid in advance as well. In all countries except in Croatia: Zagrebacka banka Savska 60 Zagreb
