*2 Research Positions in* *Evaluation and Development of Urban Surface Energy Balance Models King's College London*

An extensive number of urban land surface schemes (ULSS) have been developed. Two new projects aim to undertake a comprehensive assessment of these schemes.

· *Position 1* (NSF Funded) involves the evaluation of the urban parameterization in the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) model [a joint project with Arizona State University, USA]

· *Position 2:* (UK Met Office funded) involves the co-ordination of an international ULSS model intercomparison study [a joint project with the UK Met office and University of Reading] (

The two posts are each available for 24 months. The post holders are required to be highly numerate with science or engineering research experience and programming ability (Fortran and/or MatLab). Excellent English (written and spoken) is essential as both will involve extensive communication with partners located around the world. There may be opportunities for foreign travel. Experience in one or more of: modelling land-surface atmospheric exchanges, atmospheric science, urban climatology,
and/or model evaluation will be advantageous.

The appointment will be made on the RA1A or RA1B scale, £23,800 pa to £27,162 pa* *inclusive of London Allowance, depending on qualifications and experience
