PhD Position in nanoscale physics (2/3 BAT IIa, 4 years)

Firma/Institution: Freie Universität Berlin, FB Physik Land: Germany Position: PhD Position eingegangen am:03/12/2007

Beschreibung:
An experimental PhD position is available at the Department of Physics of the Freie Universität in Berlin. Our group studies the properties of nanoscale systems using optical spectroscopy, in particular, Raman scattering. The focus of our research work is on carbon-based materials such as carbon nanotubes and graphene. We are looking for a PhD student to join our multinational and interdisciplinary team. The future PhD project will be in the area of nanoscale physical science. The research focus will depend on the interest and expertise of the successful candidate; possible topics include single-molecule spectroscopy, electron-phonon coupling, and photoconductivity.

We are looking for a motivated researcher, who enjoys experimental work as much as independent thinking. Candidates must have a Master or Diplom in physics, chemistry, materials science or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in experimental condensed matter physics, optical spectroscopy, and the physics or chemistry of nanostructures.

The PhD position lasts up to four years with a salary of about €1900/month (2/3 BAT IIa). The future holder of the position is expected to participate in the teaching of the Department of Physics (2.67 hours/week during term).

Further details on the position and our group can be obtained by contacting Prof. S. Reich (+49 30 838 56162, reich@physik. fu-berlin. de); interested candidates are strongly encouraged to do so. Please, send your application (cover letter including a statement of purpose in English or German, CV, copies of degrees) to Prof. Dr. S. Reich, Freie Universität Berlin, Fachbereich Physik, Arnimallee 14, 14195 Berlin). Interviewing for the position will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The Freie Universität Berlin is an equal opportunity affirmative action employer and specifically encourages applications by women.
