Michigan State University (MSU) is recognized at a center of excellence in training and capacity building nationally and internationally. The Institute of International Agriculture at MSU offers international short courses and internship program in the following areas.
An International Short Course in Agroecology, Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and Sustainable Agriculture, June 15 - 27, 2008 This course is designed to help participants better understand the management of new technologies and biological processes toward the end of achieving higher productivity and enhancing environmental quality within the context of available imputs of more traditional fertilizers and chemical pesticide technology.
An International Internship Program in Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), July 13 - 18, 2008
One-week internship program with focus on technology transfer, use and management within the context of GATT/WTO. This program provides hands-on training in the day-to-day handling of IPR issues in several settings including university, business, and legal environment.
An International Short Course in Food Safety, July 27 - August 1, 2008 One-week short course with a focus on food safety policy development, risk analysis, and program implementation. This program will provide hads-on training and experience in various issues of food safety in both public and private sector settings.
Biosafety: An International Short Course in Environmental Aspects of Agricultural Biotechnology, August 3 - 8, 2008
The Biosafety course is designed to give participants a thorough grounding in all commercializatio of genetically engineered organisms, It will cover the theory and pratice of environmental risk assessment and management of communication of benefits and risks of agricultural biotechnology applications. A major componet of the program will provide practical experience in biosafety evaluation through the real world case studies covering a diverse group of crops, genes, and potential environmental concerns.
International Agricultural Biotechnology Short Course, September 7 - 19, 2008
This short course wil encompass biotechnology research, policies, management, networking, and public outreach components. In addition, biotechnology- related trade issues will be covered in the course. This uniquely diverse course take an interactive and participatory approach, and use of a broad mix of applied classroom instruction, case studies, panel/group discussions, and laboratory, green-house, and field visits.
