European Integration and EU Studies
September - December 2010 or January-April 2011
The Centre for European Studies (CES, www.carleton.ca/ces), an EU Centre of Excellence at Carleton University in Ottawa, invites applications for a position as
scholar-in-residenc e for the period of four months, either September-December 2010 or January-April 2011. This appointment will be made in cooperation with two of the university's teaching units, the Institute of European, Russian, and Eurasian Studies and the Department of Political Science. The position will involve teaching two seminar-type courses in the area of European integration, consultation with Carleton faculty regarding research collaboration, and a public lecture on an EU-related topic. CES will assist the visitor with research contacts in Canada; the visitor will
also have the opportunity to visit other EU Centres in Canada.
Applicants should be scholars from EU member states with expertise in European integration and research interests that lie in one or more of the following subject areas: (1) the political economy of European integration: regional and global dimensions; (2) citizenship and social integration in the EU; (3) environmental policy in the EU/Europe; (4) EU-Canada cooperation in conflict management and regional development.
We are particularly interested in visitors who can teach courses relating to one or more of the following topics: European identity and European integration; social and cultural aspects of European integration processes; European integration and European security; or environmental issues and policies in the EU. One of the two courses might be a special topics seminar related to the visitor's core expertise.
We are seeking applicants with a completed Ph.D. in a relevant field and with a record of publication, research, and teaching in the field. The scholar-in-residenc e will receive a stipend to cover travel and accommodation expenses, a modest living allowance, as well as a fee for teaching.
