Research Associate in Fish Health (Universitat de València - Estudi General, Spain)

You will work within the project Pathogen Research in Mediterranean Aquaculture, a Marie Curie Action for the Transfer of Knowledge funded by the EC?s 6th Framework Programme. The objective of the action is to foster the research capability of the host organization in (i) diagnosis and typing techniques of pathogens and (ii) techniques to evaluate the immune response to pathogens of finfish species of interests for Mediterranean aquaculture. Your work will be in close association with the project?s coordinator, assisting him to plan and supervise the experiments, to organize relevant workshops, to develop new research approaches and to assist with reporting to the EC.

You will join a friendly, lively and multidisciplinary team of microbiologists and fish parasitologists, who have research excellence as a top priority. The project will provide opportunities to investigate new and little-known emerging pathogens in Mediterranean finfish aquaculture. Our modern facilities including a plant for experimental aquaculture holding over 100,000 L will provide the ideal setting for your work.

The Fellowship is offered for 6 months, preferably dealt into 2-3 month secondments along the extent of the project (January 2007 to October 2009) as a flat stipend of c. ?16,000, plus health insurance and travel and mobility allowances, and is compatible with employment at another institution. You should have 10+ year fulltime postgraduate experience and a consolidated publication record in one or several of the following fields: experimental fish parasitology, fish immunology, molecular diagnosis of fish pathogens and fish virology. You should also have wide experience in project management and organization of relevant training activities. Nationality of an EU Member State or an Associated State is not required for this position.
