Background

The Contact Point for Roma and Sinti Issues (CPRSI) (www.osce.org/ odihr) is tasked with providing advice and assistance to participating States in regards to the implementation of their commitments regarding Roma, namely of the provisions contained by the OSCE Action Plan on Roma and Sinti (Maastricht Ministerial Decision No. 3/03) (http://www.osce. org/item/ 7956.html). Since June 2006, the CPRSI has been engaged with preparing a status report on the implementation of the Action Plan; a process which is done regularly and provides the basis for briefing participating States on the achievements regarding improving the situation of Roma and Sinti across OSCE region. This task requires additional resources in collecting and processing relevant information.

The CPRSI aims to host an intern that will assist in the collecting and processing relevant information regarding the progress of participating States in implementing their commitments towards Roma.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Senior Adviser on Roma and Sinti, the intern will be tasked to:

a.. Assist in collecting and processing material related to the various provisions of the Action Plan on Roma and Sinti;
b.. Collect and process information relating to the implementation of the Action Plan by participating States (material which can be used for the next Status Report);
c.. Collect and process information and materials from other international organizations (EC; CoE; UN; UNDP; UNICEF; FRA; OSI; other) regarding Roma-related policies, strategies, programmes, as implemented by states, or directly by them. Store and cluster the information according to its source;
d.. Assist the CPRSI with the logistic aspects of preparation of the HDIM and Human Dimension Meetings, including side events organized or convened by CPRSI;
e.. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Note: The intern will be given information regarding channels and sources (mainly electronic) for checking and /or requesting for information regarding situation of Roma.

Deliverables:

a.. Progress reports each month;
b.. Final report by 15 June 2007.

Internship Dates: 5 January - 31 June 2008

Necessary Qualifications

. Roma-related knowledge and interest in learning;
. Good writing skills in English and in researching;
. Good organization, communications and reporting skills;
. Ability to liaise with Roma NGOs, as instructed, as well as with other departments within the ODIHR, when required;
. Knowledge of Romani language is an asset;
. Post-graduate student or recent graduate;
. Working experience with Roma communities is an asset.

Remuneration Package

For the duration of the internship the person will be covered with life, accident and disability insurance at the cost of the OSCE/ODIHR. The intern will also be able to participate in a group health insurance scheme at his/her own expense. The OSCE/ODIHR has received funding from the Roma Participation Programme (RPP). The RPP will pay an intern from a post-communist country (Eastern Europe, former Yugoslavia and Central Asia) a stipend and travel expenses to Warsaw.
