Respecting Diversity
21-28 October 2007

Sofia, Bulgaria

The National Association of the UN Youth Clubs has the pleasure of inviting you to participate in the international training course "Respecting Diversity".

The training course "Respecting Diversity" is aimed at promoting the building and strengthening of open and democratic European societies. It is based on a philosophy of participation, democracy and intercultural exchange for young leaders and youth workers who are in a position to act as "multipliers" . Its realisation will contribute to the European Youth Campaign for Diversity, Human Rights and Participation and make reference to the European Year of Equal Opportunities for all.

The main idea is that the participants are not only informed theoretically of the abuse of human rights, due to differences in gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin and religion, but also contribute for the elimination of such obstacles to the development of the civil society. The encounter of different social and cultural experience, as well as the working methods with practical orientation, provided in the course, will help young leaders to find ways in achieving tolerance.

The cultural diversity after the EU enlargement gets more and more tangible and imposes the necessity of a wider social debate, aiming at understanding, respecting and preserving the differences. Guaranteeing of gender, ethnic and religious tolerance is an inseparable part in the Europe's democratic development and has an important place in the Charter of Fundamental Rights.

OBJECTIVES

* To raise the awareness about different forms of discrimination;

* To share and analyse examples of legal and political actions against discrimination and for securing equality of opportunities.
* To provide participants with tools, methods and other resources to promote equality and eliminate discrimination;

* To increase participants' knowledge about Human Rights Education;

The rich social program, including a sightseeing trip to the Rila Monastery, one of the most significant and picturesque monuments on the Balkans, will enable the participants to feel the atmosphere of Bulgaria -an ever-evolving and modern country with great cultural heritage and
traditions, dating back from Roman and Byzantine times.
