Short term EVS projects in Romania - Rediscover the medieval fortress

Dear friends,
Are you interested in history and geography? Are you interested in archeology, but you never had the opportunity to try to excavate something,or you already have experience in conducting archaeological excavations, and you want to increase it? Are you interested working with various artifacts? If your answer is YES, than this opportunity definitely is for you!

Life Youth Foundation is organizing a short term EVS project “Rediscover the medieval fortress” for 2008.

The project “Rediscover the medieval fortress” consist of 3 two weeks group EVS projects:

5 May – 22 May, 2008 - Rediscover the medieval fortress I
5 June – 22 June, 2008 - Rediscover the medieval fortress II
1 July – 17 July, 2008 - Rediscover the medieval fortress III

During this projects you will have the opportunity to learn:

how to conduct archaeological excavations

about interpretation of the archaeological artifacts (XII-XIX centuries), description, primary conservation, inventory

about the historical ages characteristic for Oradea Fortress site, etc;

to work in an intercultural group and environment;

about the history of the Oradea citadel;


The program of each group EVS camp contains:

working on archaeological excavations on medieval Fortress of Oradea;

participating in workshops of archaeological techniques and procedures (restoration, archaeological researches, tools for conducting archaeological researches, etc.), local culture (history, traditions) and team building activities.

cultural visits to the historical monuments in Oradea city and outside it;

The working schedule will include activities were 75% of time volunteers will spend involved in physical and practical activities and 25% of the time in research and documentation activities and participate actively in workshops run by specialists on issues related to history and archeology.

The program will give you the opportunity to work side by side with an enthusiastic team of experts in archeology and youth work. The methodology is designed to encourage volunteers to discover new knowledge and skills, share experiences, develop personal abilities and have moments of persona reflection.

If you are:

Young people in age between 18 – 30 years

Resident from one of the following countries : Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Montenegro, Serbia, Albania, Russian Federation, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine .

you have basic knowledge of English language;

This project encourage the participation of young people with the following disadvantages: economical, educational, geographical and social difficulties.

In which period you want participate in this project (5-20 May, 5 -20 June or 1-17 July, please indicate 2 periods of time, when you would like to participate. As a rule you will be able to participate only in one of the camps)

Project procedure and Important dates:

till 6st of October, 2007 – deadline for submitting CV and motivation letters
9th October, 2007 – information about the selection results
9th - 15th October, 2007 – selected participants find their sending organizations
15th - 28th October, 2007 – development of the project application form for the submitting for Romanian National Agency
31st January, 2008 – results about the project from Romanian National Agency
2nd – 10th February, 2008 – Informing the participants and sending organizations about the results from the National Agency;
