GRADUATE SCHOOL IN MIGRATION, ECONOMY AND SOCIETY.

The Department of Ethnic Studies at Linköping University, Sweden, invites PhD-students from all countries to participate in a Graduate School in Migration, Economy and Society with the anticipated starting date in September 2008. The school aims to strengthen the knowledge development as concerns the close and important interplay between migration, economy and society. The programme offers students an
opportunify to pursue integrated studies that bring together the otherwise often disjointed fields of research on international migration and ethnic relations, on the one hand, and research on political economy, the labour market, and the welfare state, on the other.

The graduate school is designed so as to provide both a core and a supplementary curriculum. The core curriculum consists of three courses taken in consecutive order-allowing students to stay and attend for a full semester-while the supplementary curriculum extends over two semesters, starting after the conclusion of the core curriculum. The first semester runs from September 2008 to January 2009, whereas the
second semester runs from January to June 2009.

Each course, respectively, will give the PhD-students the opportunity to engage critically with the core concepts, the main theoretical perspectives and methodologies, as well as with the most important empirical scholarship in its particular field of study. Teaching methods will range from lectures and seminars to student-led project work, workshops and small group tutorials. Students will also profit from the creative collaboration with colleagues at the department, thus gaining interdisciplinary insights directly relevant to their PhD projects.

Attention to the graduate school is free of charge for PhD Students. All students must thus have their formal appointment at another department and receive their doctoral degrees as well as funding there. For questions and further information, please contact:
