Designed for policy makers and practitioners the international Winter Peacebuilding Academy combines three of the IPDTC’s leading international training programs:

These five-day intensive training courses can be taken individually or together. The Winter Peacebuilding Academy programs have been created to provide practical, hands-on training. Highly dynamic and engaging, bringing together experts and practitioners from around the world, the programs go in-depth into peacebuilding and conflict transformation, drawing upon concrete field experiences and lessons learned to assist participants in developing the skills, tools and knowledge that will support you in your own engagements and programs in your country/internation ally.

Gender in Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding:

From Understanding to Mainstreaming to Implementation (GaP)

Trainers: Ina Curic & Sabin Muresan

Dates: February 11th ­ 15th, 2008

A five-days advanced international training program providing policy makers and practitioners with applied skills for effectively integrating gender into peacebuilding and development work and gender-sensitive and appropriate programming. The program draws upon practical policy and field experiences in integrating and applying gender understanding to programs in peacebuilding, development, and human rights and is relevant for all development, peacebuilding, gender, and human rights practitioners and specialists.

The program will:

· Examine the relationship between gender, conflict transformation and peacebuilding.

· Provide frameworks of support for integrating gender in the development and peacebuilding, and implementation and evaluation of programs and projects in conflict settings.

· Put forward tools for gender analysis and gender sensitive action planning in conflict and post violence settings.

· Strengthen the capacity building skills, knowledge and networks among the participants coming from various work backgrounds.

· Establish a thematic dialogue and applied conceptual framework and generate knowledge among professionals with similar responsibilities in diverse environments

From Conflicts to Peace Processes:

Enhancing Effectiveness and Impact in Peacebuilding (CPP)

Dates: February 18th ­ 22nd, 2008

For those working in areas affected by conflict and working to contribute to peacebuilding and peace processes from the local to the national and international levels. The program is a practical, hands-on course designed to provide you with a dynamic and constructive environment to assess and reflect on your experiences and to have the opportunity to learn practical and effective tools and methods, drawing from a broad-range of experiences in peacebuilding from around the world. Case-studies have been chosen for the practical lessons they illustrate and what can be drawn from them. The training itself is designed to take participants in-depth into learning tools for analysis and implementation, >from community-based peacebuilding
to facilitating multi-stakeholder dialogues and peacemaking mediation. Created for policy makers, practitioners, and those directly involved in peacebuilding, mediation, confidence and security building measures, and war to peace transitions, From Conflicts to Peace Processes is a pioneering program in the field.

Designing Peacebuilding Programs (DPP)

Dates: February 25th ­ 29th, 2008

Developed to help organizations, practitioners and policy makers to enhance the quality, effectiveness and impact of peacebuilding programs. Based peacebuilding, community-based peacebuilding, multi-stakeholder dialogues, postwar recovery and war-to-peace transition processes in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe, and review of peacebuilding operations by local, national and international organizations, Designing Peacebuilding Programs is the only five-days program of its kind specifically targeted to assisting organizations and agencies to improve and enhance the quality and effectiveness of their programs to strengthen peacebuilding impact.

The program will help you to:

- Learn >from best practices and lessons learned in peacebuilding and conflict transformation programme development and implementation;

- Explore the most up-to-date work being done in the field by national and international organizations around the world;

- Develop effective, practical methods for integrating peacebuilding and conflict transformation into the work of your organization/ institution/ agency;

- Explore all stages of programme development, implementation, follow-through and postprogramme/ project work in peacebuilding and conflict transformation;
