USA: Gilman International Scholarship

Announcement follows:

The Gilman International Scholarship Program offers grants for U.S. citizen undergraduate students of limited financial means to pursue academic studies abroad. Such international study is intended to better prepare U.S. students to assume significant roles in an increasingly global economy and interdependent world.

Gilman Awards
820 scholarships of up to $5,000 will be awarded this academic year for U.S. citizen undergraduates to study abroad. Award amounts will vary depending on the length of study and student need with the average award being $4,000. Undergraduate students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at 2-year or 4-year colleges or universities are eligible to apply.

Deadlines
The Fall 2008 application cycle is for study abroad programs beginning between July 15 and October 15, 2008. The fall cycle encompasses fall semester, quarter and academic year study abroad programs that are a minimum of four weeks in length. Summer-only study abroad programs are not eligible. If your study abroad program begins immediately prior to or after these dates please contact the Gilman Program at gilman@iie.org .
