FAU Peace Studies Program to hold conference on 20 years after the fall of Communism in Eastern and Central Europe

The upcoming Peace Studies Program Conference entitled "1989 Revisited: Lessons
From Two Decades of Democratic Transition in Eastern and Central Europe,"marks
the anniversary of 20 years of democratic transformation in Europe. The
FAU Peace Studies Program in the Dorothy F Schmidt College of Arts and
Letters, in collaboration with the Peace Studies Student Association, sponsor an interdisciplinary conference on the anniversary of 20 years of after the fall of the Berlin wall. The conference is free and open to the public.

Taking place from Wed. Oct. 28- Fri. Oct.30, 2009, the conference features Keynote Speakers Dr. Cezar Ornatwoski, San Diego State University and
Consul General Klaus Ranner, German Consulate in Miami, and Dr. Noemi Marin, Director of Peace Studies, Florida Atlantic University.

Along with the traditional conference format, the conference includes
a film series, presenting Eastern and Central European contemporary movies in The DeSantis Center for Motion Picture Industry Studies, FAU College of Business.
An exhibit featuring artifacts from Communist times will be open to the
public for the duration of the conference. The interactive exhibit
"1989: A Walk through Public Memory in Eastern and Central Europe" is located in S.E. Wimberly Library's Jaffe Center for Book Arts.
