PhD Position (Doktorandtjänst) in Electronic Devices – Efficient integrated Analog-to-Digital Converters

Objective
Research and development of efficient integrated Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC) in advanced nano-scale semiconductor technologies. ADCs are critical components in the interface between continuous-time signals and digital signal processing systems, and they are considered to be among the major bottlenecks to the future progress of wireless communication, optical communication, radar, navigation, video systems, etc. The project is expected to generate highly innovative circuit techniques and digitally assisted ADC architectures to be designed in advanced CMOS technologies, and to be measured and verified.

Research Environment
The research work will be performed at Division of Electronic Devices (http://www.ek.isy.liu.se/), which is an internationally recognized research group, with over 30 years of experience in design of advanced integrated circuits. The division has close collaboration with major semiconductor companies and academic research organizations worldwide.

Qualifications
General requirement: M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering.
Specific requirements: The applicant is expected to have a strong background and great interest in design of analog and digital integrated circuits in advanced CMOS technologies. In addition, the challenging nature of the project requires high creativity, independence, and excellent skills in communication and team work.

Appointment time
The appointment is given for one year at a time, and will be renewed yearly subject to successful performance of duties. The programme corrsponds to four years of full-time studoes. Narmally, the studies are combined with 20% tutorial teching, wich gives a period of emplyment of five years. Total period of emplyment cannot exceed eight years.

Starting date
By aggrement.

Salyary
The commencing salary for a graduate student is at present 24 000 SEK/month. The subsequent salary will be based on locally agreed salary increments.
