PhD Scholarship in Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome virus (PRRSV) (Due: 15 March 2010)

The aim of this PhD project is to study the pathogenesis and molecular biology of PRRSV, which is one of the most devastating diseases in swine worldwide. The PhD-student will develop and validate quantitative PCR tests for the detection and diagnosis of virus isolates and will be responsible for full length sequencing (de
novo sequencing) of PRRSV isolated throughout the world.

The student will be involved in establishment of databases containing sequencedata
from a varity of PRRSV isolates and be responsible for the bioinformatics assessment of the compiled data. Furthermore, the student will elaborate and validate protocols for performing cross neutralisation tests in vitro and cross protection studies in vivo.
