Dear all, I would like to advertise the following invitation (I am sorry for any cross posting):

The Department of Civil Engineering at Boise State University (BSU) (http://boisestate.edu/) invites applicants for two Ph.D. level graduate research assistant positions starting on August 2010. The first candidate must have a strong background on Optimization methods (Non-linear programming and genetic algorithms), PDEs and advanced probability and will work on coupling artificial intelligence with hydraulics for reservoir planning, management and operations for water supply, hydropower, flood control, irrigation, wastewater management and conjunctive use of ground water and surface water in the Snake River (Idaho) and tributaries.

For more details about this project please visit the following link:
http://www.idahoclimatechange.org/index.html. This student will also work on the further development of our newly developed code "RSOCM" (River Simulation and Optimization Coupled Model) ("http://coen.boisestate.edu/ce/faculty/aleon/Research_Real_time.html".

The second applicant will work in urban flooding and transient flows in closed conduit systems (e.g., combined storm-sewer systems). This student will also work on the further development of the Illinois Transient Model (http://coen.boisestate.edu/ce/faculty/aleon/ITM.htm)

Both candidates MUST have a strong background on programming (C++, Fortran and Visual interfaces such as Visual Delphi, Java). Knowledge on Parallel computation is a plus.
Boise State University is the largest University of Idaho and it is located in Boise, the State capitol.
