The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies(FRIAS) is the University of Freiburg's international research center. It was founded in 2007 through the initiative of the German Federal Republic and the Federal States (Exzellenzinitiativ e). The School of History as one part of the FRIAS is devoted to a multi-disciplinary, comparative and international approach to modern history.It is open to international and German researchers who are working on a major project in a historical discipline or related field of study. The current research theme of the School of History is the Comparative European History from the 18th to the 20th century. Applications with a focus on other periods or different regions are also welcome. For the academic year 2012/13 applications are invited for up to 12 Research Fellowships (FRIAS School of History)
Applicants must have a Ph.D. (or equivalent) at the time of application, an international research profile, and a substantial publication record. Research fellows are expected to pursue their own research that should correspond with the current research theme. The fellowships will be awarded by the academic advisory board of the FRIAS School of History. Successful applicants are offered a stipend depending on their qualifications. During their time at the School of History they have full access to the resources of FRIAS and the University of Freiburg, including a research allowance, offices, libraries, subsidized meals and housing facilities, and research assistant services.
The academic year 2012/2013 starts on October 1, 2012 and terminates on July 31, 2013. All research fellows of the FRIAS School of History are expected to reside in Freiburg.
