MODERN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS in CENTRAL and EASTERN EUROPE

International conference for young researchers, advanced postgraduate students, analysts, NGOs

Fifth wave of EU integration, which overcame space of Central and Eastern Europe, became logical end of long process of definition and transformation of former participants of "communist camp". Then, basic attention of politicians and public of these countries was paid to providing of accordance of national interests to the requirements of European Union, known as "Copenhagen criteria". In fact, foreign
policy in 1991-2004 was the time of active consultations of representatives of Central and Eastern European countries concerning EU enlargement. However, EU access on the contrary caused the problem question of correlation of national foreign policies and official line of EU about common foreign and defence policy. As a result, new EU members need to define from one side the position on the questions
of foreign policy within the EU frames that requires search of political and economic partners for common foreign policy line. From other side there is a necessity to formulate newly the vectors of national foreign policy concerning countries outside EU, but which substantially influence on stability of political process in Central and Eastern Europe.

Young researchers, analysts, representatives of public organizations, NGOs and official institutions of Central and Eastern European countries are invited to participate in conference. Researchers and scientists from other EU countries are also invited. The maximal number of participants is 35-40 persons. Among general topics of the conference it is possible to select:

1. Geopolitics of international organizations in Central and Eastern Europe
a. Development of European Union after the Fifth wave of enlargement
b. OSCE and NATO: safety and conflict resolution on spaces South, Eastern and Central Europe
c. Regional collaboration of new EU members as a factor of providing of state self-identification in the conditions of integration. Visegrad group, Central European Initiative, Council of Baltic Sea states. CEFTA
d. Newest regional initiatives, their influence on geopolitics of Central and Eastern Europe
e. Peacemaking activity of Central and Eastern European countries
2. Foreign policy of CEE countries under the influence of European Union
a. Change of co-ordinates of foreign policy of Poland, Czech Rep., Slovakia, Hungary and other countries of region in the conditions of EU enlargement
b. Vectors of modern foreign policy of Poland
c. Vectors of modern foreign policy of the Czech republic
d. Vectors of modern foreign policy of Slovakia
e. Vectors of modern foreign policy of Hungary
f. Vectors of modern foreign policy of the New Independent States
g. Modern tools and technologies of providing of foreign-policy interests
3. Economic aspects of international relations in Central and Eastern Europe
a. Import and export processes in the region and EU influence
b. Power safety and cooperation
c. Investment attractiveness of Central and Eastern Europe
d. Development of technologies and industry during EU enlargement
e. Labour, educational, legal and illegal migration in Central and Eastern Europe
4. Culture and national identity in EU enlargement
a. Cultural development in the conditions of transformation, modernization and integration. Influence of information society on changing of cultures of Central and Eastern Europe
b. EU and new members. The Fifth wave of "return to Europe": culture or ideology? Eurorealism, eurofederalism, eurooptimism of cultural transformations
c. New Independent States in search of national identity in the conditions of transitional political process

Authors of the selected reports should give the final text one week before the conference and prepare short (10 minutes) presentation for conference. The best reports will be published in Working Papers of the conference. Working language - English.

Participants cover expenses for travel and residing personally. Please send theses of reports (up to 500 words) in English, and also your CV till November, 20, 2006:
