Post-Doc Fellowship in Biological Sciences (IGBMC-CNRS/INSERM/ULP, Illkirch, France)

Phenotypic and functional analysis of a novel oncogene implicated in head and neck and prostate cancer

A consortium of research labs, coordinated by Dr. B. WASYLYK of the IGBMC (Illkirch/Strasbourg) has received funding to evaluate the therapeutic, prognostic and diagnostic potential of a novel protein implicated in cancers of the head and neck and prostate. Within this consortium, the labs of B. Wasylyk (Laboratory of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cancer, Molecular Pathology Department, IGBMC), J. De Mey (Biotechnology of Macromolecular Interactions Department, ESBS), and JP Samama (Department of structural biology and genomics, IGBMC) will undertake work to elucidate the role of this protein in healthy and cancerous human prostate and cell lines. Preliminary results indicate a role in cell cycle checkpoint regulation, cell division, and cell migration.

To explore these leads, the consortium offers three 2 year post-doc positions. The successful candidates will elucidate the structure of the protein and elaborate screens for interacting molecules, using cell-based assays and structure/function analysis. Most of the molecular tools and cellular models are already available.

Experience in molecular biology and biochemistry using in vitro, cell culture, ex-vivo, and mice as model systems, with particular emphasis on processes relevant to genes and pathways implicated in transformation.

The IGBMC and the IGL dispose of high end imaging equipment (microinjection, confocal and wide field imaging systems, multidimensional time lapse recording, TIRF, FRAP, FRET, micro-FALI) and efficient service facilities. Platforms for protein cloning, expression, purification and crystallization are available in the Department of structural biology and genomics of IGBMC. Most of the molecular tools and cellular models are already available. The Illkirch campus is famous for offering a stimulating and competitive scientific environment and Strasbourg is a very nice place to live in.
