PhD in Biomedical Image Analysis-Heidelberg

Doktorandenstelle "Biomedizinische Bildanalyse"

The research group "Biomedical Computer Vision" (BMCV) at the University of Heidelberg, IPMB, Dept. Bioinformatics & Functional Genomics, and the DKFZ Heidelberg, Dept. Theoretical Bioinformatics is developing algorithms and methods for computer-based analysis of biological and medical images, in particular, cell microscopy images. The main aim is to derive quantitative information about the shape, motion, as well as the function of cellular and subcellular structures.

Currently, the BMCV group offers a PhD position in Biomedical Image Analysis, an interdisciplinary field between biological and computational sciences. Main research topics are elastic registration and motion analysis of 2D and 3D biological images.

The successful candidate must have a Masters (Diploma) degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. We expect very good mathematical and programming skills (e.g., in C, C++, Java) as well as experience with software development systems in the area of Computer Vision. Knowledge in Biology is an advantage. A high level of self-motivation and the ability to work in a team are
essential for this position.
