Call for Application, FASID FIELDWORK PROGRAM

FASID Fieldwork Program
Interdisciplinary training for graduate students and young professionals in community development

Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi, Indonesia
July 25 - August 12, 2007

<>
Fieldwork is an endeavor to travel an unknown path. To reach the final destination,
the fieldworker collects many pieces of information and investigates what they mean.
The compass is the fieldworker' s sensibility and reason. There is no shortcut or fast track.

Another aspect of fieldwork is to immerse oneself in relationships with others. People in front
of you are not simple objectives of research. The longer you stay in a location,
the closer you become to them. "How do I relate to my host family, their neighbors,
village officials or extension workers?" "How do I live in these relationships?
" Fieldwork gives us many chances to think about these fundamental questions.

Join our Program! We guarantee that your experiences in the Program will become a firm foundation on
which to build your future.

<>
By the end of this 19-day program, participants will be better prepared for independent fieldwork
by learning the basic principles of fieldwork on social development issues;
strengthening their capacity to grasp a holistic picture of the community where fieldwork is conducted;
and building skills to work in a multi-disciplinary and culturally diverse team.
