A three-year, European funded project, MICRODIS looks at the social and economic impacts of extreme events. This post offers you the opportunity to work closely with our partners on the conceptualisation of social impacts, developing protocols for survey data collection in a number of study sites across Europe and Asia. You will be expected to register for a PhD at Northumbria University under the supervision of Dr Maureen Fordham.
You should be expecting an upper second or first class honours degree, or a Masters in a relevant subject, if you don't already hold one. We are also looking for knowledge of disaster research and practice in both developed and developing countries, specifically in one of the following areas: gender and disasters, social capital, livelihood approaches or psychosocial aspects of disasters.
Interviews to be held late June/early July 2007.
