Student Technician/PhD Studentship in X-ray Diffraction

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated PhD student technician to aid in the running of X-ray diffraction work. This is offered in conjunction with a four-year PhD place on a related research project. You will be offered internal and external training in X-ray diffraction.

Your role will include collection of X-ray data, solving and refining structures, maintenance of diffractometer, data backup and archiving. Hours of work will start at 6 hours per week in Year 1, increasing to 10 hours per week in Year 2 onwards.

You should have a minimum of an upper second-class (2i) honours degree in Chemistry.

You will receive a studentship stipend in addition to your salary, and the total will amount to £12,600 for 2007/08. The amount will be adjusted on a yearly basis to provide a salary/stipend combination each year in line with a standard stipend. The salary element will be in the range of £21,050 - £25,889 per annum, reduced pro rata. This is a fixed-term contract for 4 years.
