The School of Economics and Finance at the University of St Andrews, is offering five PhD studentships to be taken up in Autumn 2007 - or as soon as possible thereafter - to work on topics related to macroeconomics, market or contract incompleteness or in related areas: The emphasis is on developing microeconomic foundations for macroeconomic theories and policy advice.

These scholarships are part funded by the Scottish Institute for Research in Economics which is a major new initiative between the Scottish Universities, in collaboration with the Scottish Funding Council, in which the University of St Andrews is a lead institution. You will work on these topics and undertake limited undergraduate teaching in return for a financial support package which will cover tuition fees in addition to an inflation-linked studentship of £12,000 per year.

You will have completed a Masters degree in economics or you will have at least an Honours degree-level education in a technical area such as mathematics or engineering. Offers of a studentship will be conditional on applicants being admitted to the University as a PhD student. Awards will be for one year in the first instance, with continuation for a further two years subject to satisfactory progress each year.
