Call for Applications for PhD scholarships (deadline: April 15, 2008)
The Center for Doctoral Studies in Social and Behavioral Sciences (CDSS) at the University of Mannheim offers a three-year doctoral program for students of Political Science, Psychologym Sociology.
The mission of the CDSS is to train young academics according to best international practice with a strong focus on excellence in research. Doctoral training at the CDSS includes intensive course work during the first year in which students receive the training necessary in their research fields. A focus on quantitative methods enables students to design and conduct their doctoral research projects. During the second and third year, doctoral students mainly work on their thesis and have the opportunity to share their work with other graduates and researchers in various workshops.
The CDSS offers an excellent research environment for doctoral students. They are supervised by the internationally renowned social science faculty and by staff members of leading European research institutions such as the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES), the Centre for Survey Research and Methodology (ZUMA) and the Central Institute of Mental Health (ZI).
The CDSS is one pillar of the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS), funded by the German Excellence Initiative. The Graduate School provides doctoral training in empirical and quantitative methods and their application to business, economics, and the social sciences.
For doctoral students broad financial support is provided. During the first year students are awarded a full scholarship of 1,200 Euro per month. During the second and third year CDSS doctoral candidates will be funded either through Ph.D. grants, research positions or teaching assistantships.
The course program and scholarships start in September 2008. Deadline for application is April 15, 2008.
