Postdoctoral fellows, Northwestern University, USA

Two postdoctoral positions are available to examine the molecular mechanisms of store-operated calcium entry. Store-operated channels are a widely expressed calcium channel family that initiates critical functions such as gene expression, motility, and secretion. We are interested in several basic questions related to this pathway. How are store-operated channels activated? What are their biological functions? What are the biophysical hallmarks of these channels? One position will employ a combination of patch-clamp electrophysiology, imaging, and molecular biological techniques to understand the molecular basis of store-operated channel behavior. The second position will utilize cell biological and molecular approaches (live cell fluorescence imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry) to examine the molecular mechanisms of channel activation and their downstream functions. Applicants with experience in patch-clamp electrophysiology, cell biology, live cell imaging, and/or molecular biology are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidates will join a laboratory that uses a range of electrophysiological, digital imaging (wide-field, FRET, and TIRF microscopy), and molecular biological techniques to study the mechanisms of store operated calcium signaling in health and disease. The laboratory is funded by Federal and private grants and is a part of the Northwestern University Institute of Neuroscience. The laboratory is located in the Feinberg School of Medicine on the downtown campus of Northwestern University. The successful candidates will join a vibrant research community with access to substantial resources and state-of-the-art facilities.
