CURRENT AND EMERGING SECURITY CHALLENGES IN EUROPE’S NEIGHBOURHOOD: WHAT ROLE FOR TRANSATLANTIC INSTITUTIONS?
Dodecanese island of Halki (next to Rhodes), 17-21 June 2009
Organized by the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP)
in cooperation with the Balkan Trust for Democracy in Belgrade
Supported by the German Marshall Fund of the United States (GMFUS)
This year's Halki International Seminars will focus on the role of the transatlantic institutions in helping local stakeholders address security challenges in the Middle East, the Black Sea and Southeastern Europe. Both traditional regional conflicts and new security issues, such as climate change, migration, energy, and the effects of
globalization will be addressed. Discussions will concentrate on assessing current transatlantic strategies and drafting future policies for the stabilization of turbulent regions and the resolution of conflicts. The seminar format, as is always the case with our annual Halki International Seminars, will be highly interactive and will include break-out working groups and roundtable discussions.
