PhD positions in Machine Learning for the Automatic Recognition

*2 PhD positions in Machine Learning for the Automatic Recognition of Emotion in Speech*

Applications are invited for two fully funded, three and a half year PhD studentships in the Digital Media Centre at the Dublin Institute of Technology. The Emovere project focuses on the area of emotion recognition in speech. This project aims to identify the most appropriate acoustic characteristics and correlates to use in emotional speech analysis and to investigate how effective are advanced machine
learning techniques for the recognition of emotion in speech.

The project will fund two PhD studentships. The focus of the first studentship is speech processing, working on the identification and extraction of acoustic characteristics from speech and the a ppropriate annotation of emotional speech assets. The second studentship is in the area of machine learning focusing on the prediction of levels of emotion in speech and the identification of the predictive acoustic and contextual features of emotional speech. The successful candidates will
work within the Digital Media Centre in DIT Aungier Street. For further information on the project contact Dr. Sarah Jane Delany (sarahjane.delany@ dmc.dit.ie) or Dr
Charlie Cullen (charlie.cullen@ dmc.dit.ie).
